The easiest way is to also buy some stuff from them or apply their services (crafting/repair/etc.), at least if the merchant has valuable items for sale that are worth buying. And some of the merchants are just better than the others, in terms of inventory, prices, and how much money they have in reserve.

Can't recall if that was changed in some patch or non. You are only at the very first where getting money is hard. Just sell some of your unwanted stuff whenever you meet a merchant. Later in the game you can sell larger amounts of stuff to one merchant which has a lot of money.
